i.      Kate Chopin was born February 8th, 1850 as Katherine O’Flaherty and passed away on August 22nd, 1904. She’s a writer of short stories and is known as one of the first feminist authors of the 20th century. “The Story of an Hour” was written by Chopin in April of 1894 and published in Vogue in December of 1894. IT was originally published under the name “The Dream of an Hour”. “The Story of an Hour” refers to the time elapsed between the time Mrs. Mallard finds out her husband is dead to the time she finds out that her husband is alive. During the time period in order to make her story publishable the heroine had to die because the idea of a woman being liberated by the death of her husband was considered controversial.
